Wisconsin’s Deer District scores a winning security plan
Milwaukee Bucks protect new Fiserv Forum arena and growing downtown entertainment district with intelligent surveillance solution
“With Axis cameras I can understand exactly what happened and deal with it very quickly. I don’t have to interview a dozen people to get to the truth of the matter.” Adam Stockwell, VP of Security, Milwaukee Bucks.
When the Milwaukee Bucks organization decided to replace its aging Bradley Center arena with the new Fiserv Forum in the heart of downtown Milwaukee, plans called for installing more than 850 security cameras to oversee the property. Given the wide variety of events that would take place in the stadium – sports, concerts, conventions, conferences and more – they needed cameras that provided sharp details across a 17,341-seat bowl, the concession concourse and elsewhere throughout the property. In addition, they wanted cameras that could quickly adjust to dynamic lighting conditions from near darkness to bright sunlight and flashing strobes.
Security consultants from Johnson Controls, an Axis Communications partner, outfitted Fiserv Forum with a portfolio of Axis IP cameras ranging from ultra-high resolution 20-megapixel cameras and multi-sensor panorama cameras, to pan/tilt/zoom (PTZ) and fixed dome cameras. The entire camera system is controlled by an enterprise video management software in the stadium’s Arena Operations Center (AOC). Because the cameras are grouped into quadrants, it’s easy for Bucks security staff, department managers and local response agencies to see multiple viewpoints of an area simultaneously on the AOC’s dozen 60-inch monitors.
With widespread coverage of Fiserv Forum both inside and out, the Axis cameras have helped the Bucks security team visually document everything from a bartender stealing drinks from the liquor cabinet to vehicle accidents in the parking lot. Thanks to the recordings, the Bucks have averted potential lawsuits, ousted unruly fans and even recovered damages from careless delivery drivers.
