Mission

Compared to other major economies, Brazil is the one that depends on roadways for cargo transportation the most. At least 75% of its production moves by road. This reliance became clear in 2018, when a truckers’ strike paralyzed Brazil for 10 days. As a result, many port terminals noticed an increase in cabotage (shipping routes between ports in the same country). This was the case for Wilson Sons, whose Tecon Salvador business unit saw a 9% increase in this mode of transportation compared to the previous year. To keep up with this growth, the terminal decided to enhance its port service infrastructure, including modernization of its video monitoring system.

Solution

Ampla Integração created a project that kept the existing cameras and installed new equipment that enable the integration of image and voice data to ensure faster response to the company’s various sectors. The system shows cargo movement, vehicles, and people on ships, yard areas, and inside warehouses in detail, using extremely reliable high-definition cameras. Part of the project also included the installation of a panoramic camera, AXIS P3807-PVE. The equipment covers an area previously covered by three cameras while offering the same quality, resulting in lower infrastructure costs.

Result

This state-of-the-art technology resulted in a complete, reliable and fully integrated system for Tecon Salvador. These ultra-high capacity cameras, combined with image detection and processing, offer a solution that enhanced security. The cost-benefit ratio was the project’s best feature.

“We were able to view the terminal with better definition and detail,” Alex Costa, Tecon Infrastructure analyst, said. Tecon Salvador also started to use the images to support employee training, something that helped the terminal to renew its certification under ISO 45001, a standard that recognizes occupational health and safety management systems. Because Tecon Salvador must comply with the ISPS (International Ship and Port Facility Security) Code standards, which require images to be kept for 90 days, it was decided to use Axis Zipstream technology, a system that reduces storage space by up to 40%.
