Internationally recognized for its product quality and continuous innovation, Vergnano operates in more than 30 countries worldwide. The company designs and manufactures a comprehensive range of precision tapping, gear-cutting, and milling solutions for highly specialized industries, including fasteners, energy, mechanical engineering, electrical, aerospace, and automotive.
Every stage of tool manufacturing is carried out at the heart of Vergnano, at its production facility in Chieri (Turin), where the watchwords are: cutting-edge technology, highly specialized personnel, and strict quality controls.
From burglary detection to perimeter protection
Vergnano's production plant, a modern facility covering over 15,000 square meters built in 2002, suffered an average of two to three theft attempts per year. With tools that can be worth thousands of euros and given heavy penalties for failure to deliver to customers, security has always been a pillar of the company's operational continuity.
Vergnano therefore decided to move from a burglary detection approach to a prevention approach, so that threats could be detect and deterred before they could materialize. In other words, the need was to “do something more, but do it outside,” i.e., protect the entire perimeter of the plant in an intelligent and effective way.
In our industry, security is not just a matter of theft prevention, but is essential to ensuring business continuity and keeping the promises we make to our customers. A production stoppage due to theft has serious economic and reputational consequences. 3 key components in the perimeter protection
The innovative end-to-end solution based entirely on Axis technology was proposed to Vergnano by Sicurtel, a long-standing supplier to the Chieri-based company. In particular, the choice of Axis was dictated by the unique features of the solution developed, which combines:

Radar-video fusion cameras
16 Axis radar-video fusion cameras, which integrate video and radar analysis in AXIS Object Analytics into a single camera body. The optical part provides immediate visual verification, returning precise localization and classification of objects powered by deep learning. The radar detects the movement, direction, and size of objects in a large area, operating flawlessly in all weather conditions (such as fog or heavy rain) and lighting conditions. Only when both technologies agree on detecting an anomaly does the alarm trigger, drastically reducing false positives.
Network horn speakers
4 Axis network horn speakers, which go beyond the concept of a simple siren. In the event of unwanted activity, the horn speakers emit pre-recorded messages or allow the security center to communicate remotely in real time with intruders, a highly effective deterrent.
Bullet cameras
5 Axis bullet optical cameras, which guarantee excellent image quality regardless of lighting conditions.
Video management software
A single video management software (VMS), AXIS Camera Station Pro, which controls the entire system. A server-based VMS with optional cloud connectivity, creating a complete end-to-end solution managed by a single point of contact.
“We have been working with Vergnano for decades, and our role is to anticipate threats by evolving the protection of their site,” continues Toaldo. “The solution offered by Axis has allowed us to build a smarter, more robust, and more efficient perimeter protection for Vergnano, capable of actively preventing theft attempts before they happen, as we have already seen in the field.”
Tangible and measurable results and benefits
- Effective prevention. Since its activation in 2024, the system has already prevented two major theft attempts: the footage shows the intruders forced to flee, completely disoriented by the clear voice messages emitted by the speakers.
- Drastic reduction in false alarms. The Axis solution reduces false positives to about one per month across the entire system, and even when they do occur, video verification is immediate, meaning that security only intervenes in the event of real threats.
- Cybersecurity and NIS2 compliance by design. Axis has embraced the principles of the European NIS2 directive, integrating them into the design phase of its products and AXIS Camera Station Pro. This has provided Vergnano with the guarantee of a solution that is not only physically secure but also compliant with the latest regulatory standards for cybersecurity.
- Reduced TCO (Total Cost of Ownership). The use of a single device, requiring only one network cable for power and data, one IP address, and one software license for video management, reduces installation and maintenance costs and time compared to a solution with separate sensors and cameras, with an estimated overall TCO savings of approximately 30%.
- Simplified management. An end-to-end solution with a single software also means a single point of contact for both pre- and post-sales support, simplifying all system management activities.
