Taichung County Police upgrades analog system to network video for increased safety and improved traffic management

In order to develop an environment in which residents can feel safer, the Taichung County Police Bureau identified several hundred road intersections and security hot spots based on the unique terrain in the county. In order to tighten security measures, Taichung County initially deployed an analog-based video surveillance system. In light of the system’s shortcomings and new requirements such as license plate recognition, Taichung County decided to upgrade its system to network video.

A video encoder-based solution from Axis Communications was implemented. The system integrates nearly 1,000 existing analog cameras, the images of which are transmitted by broadband to the control center of the police bureau. This new IP-based solution allows realtime, round-the-clock surveillance and centralized management of road traffic and security throughout the county.

Thanks to this modern IP-Surveillance solution now in place, Taichung County can rely on a comprehensive network surveillance system that immediately transmits videos of incidents to the police bureau’s control center. Investigation is therefore speeded up, and authorized personnel can now perform real-time monitoring of intersections and at-risk areas while having the ability to easily and quickly access recordings and search of incidents.
