High quality analog video and audio
The AXIS 292 Network Video Decoder decodes digital video and audio streams into analog video signals. This allows analog devices such as monitors and video switches to be connected to an Axis IP-based video system.
Event management

AXIS 292 can be configured to keep track of multiple events continuously, as well as to switch between video sources at given time intervals. With auto-connect on alarm for example when motion is detected, video can be displayed instantly, allowing the operator to take appropriate action. Large areas can be monitored anywhere the network goes, by switching between up to 128 different video sources. Sensitive video streams can be encrypted using HTTPS.
Application areas

The AXIS 292 Network Video Decoder is ideal when there is a need to display live video on an analog monitor, for example when showing the entrance of a shopping mall or when using live video for promotion in a store. AXIS 292 can also be used for easily and cost-effectively connecting existing analog video surveillance systems at different locations. Video from analog cameras can be transferred via Axis video servers over an IP network, bridging long or shorter distances, and be converted back to analog video by AXIS 292 decoders at any location on the network. See System overview for details.
AXIS Camera Management support
The AXIS 292 supports Discovery in the AXIS Camera Management installation and management tool.
System overview
The AXIS 292 Network Video Decoder can be used mainly in two scenarios; an IP-Surveillance network and connecting existing analog systems.
What you need:
- An Axis MPEG-4 or Motion JPEG-based video server or network camera
- An analog composite or Y/C (S-VHS) video monitor or other device with analog input
- Coax cable
- Regular straight Ethernet cable
- Available port on your hub or router
IP-Surveillance network
The AXIS 292 Network Video Decoder is ideal when there is a need to display live video on an analog monitor.

Diagram explanation:
- Digital video is generated in Axis network cameras
- Digital video is sent over an Ethernet network (e.g. LAN/WAN/Internet)
- A PC for viewing the network video remotely using a standard Web browser
- Digital video is decoded and made available to an analog monitor
- A server with video management software, for example AXIS Camera Station, is used for viewing, monitoring, recording and playback, as well as event management functions.
Connecting existing analog systems
The AXIS 292 Network Video Decoder can be used for easily and cost-effectively connecting existing analog video surveillance systems at different locations. Video from analog cameras, optionally combined with audio streams, can be transferred via Axis video servers over an IP network, bridging long or shorter distances, and be converted back to analog video and audio by AXIS 292 decoders at any location on the network.
