Devices follow active, long-term support (LTS), or product-specific support (PSS) tracks. The active track adds features, improves cybersecurity, and fixes bugs while maintaining stability. LTS and PSS tracks focus on API consistency, security patches, and bug fixes, with PSS allowing some product-specific features. Choose the active track unless there are irresolvable limitations or dependencies.

Each software version may include essential changes, like configuration migrations, and skipping versions can corrupt configurations. Follow the upgrade path here.
