At the perimeter
Along a fenced site, the installation of cameras with intrusion detection analytics helps strengthen security at the perimeter. Fixed thermal cameras with AXIS Perimeter Defender provide excellent long-range coverage and detection in all lighting conditions, including in complete darkness. Visual cameras with, for instance, AXIS Object Analytics provide good coverage and detection in well-lit environments. PTZ cameras at the perimeter can further track and help identify intruders by zooming in on them. Early intrusion detection and alerts enable automatic responses such as audio messages to be sent from hornspeakers. Immediate response helps deter further incursions.

Perimeter access control
At the gate of a perimeter, there are a number of solutions that provide efficient control of human and vehicle access. They can involve Axis cameras (with AXIS License Plate Verifier), intercoms and card readers, together with Axis door controllers and I/O relay module. They enable detection, card or license plate verification, and authorized access. Learn more about access control in general, as well as vehicle access control.

Learn moreOutdoor area
In outdoor areas of a site, solutions for detecting intruders include all types of Axis cameras with intrusion detection analytics. Axis security radars with their built-in analytics are also particularly cost-effective when detection coverage is desired over a large area. All such solutions enable another layer of protection for early detection and alerts. And automatic responses such as audio messages via hornspeakers can provide effective deterrence. Visual cameras, whether fixed or PTZ, enable the possibility to identify intruders.

Building access
For efficient access control at both outer and inner entrances of buildings, a number of solutions can be implemented. They include intercoms with built-in cameras and two-way audio support, and card or mobile readers, together with Axis door controllers with approved and blocked lists. Indoor cameras with AXIS People Counter can also be used to detect tailgaters who bypass credential verifiers. Learn more about building access systems.
Typical system setup
Indoor area
In indoor areas, especially after-hours, a variety of cameras with motion detection analytics are useful in detecting and providing alerts when people are present in a certain area. In small areas, an indoor PIR motion sensor may be suitable. Automatic responses through audio messages from speakers, either built-in on a camera or through a networked indoor speaker, can provide a deterring effect.
Typical system setup
Deterrence
Sending out audio messages, whether pre-recorded or live, provide a highly effective method of scaring off intruders. Activating lights and sirens also provides a deterring effect. Learn more about audio for security.
Typical system setup
Management
Central to the management of all networked components in a system is the video management software (VMS) or network video recorder (NVR). A VMS application that resides on a server or an NVR can tie video surveillance, access control and audio systems together, enabling both system configuration and management. In addition, they can automatically handle event notifications triggered by various sensors (cameras) in the system by activating programmed responses, such as starting video recording, streaming live video, sending out email notifications, sounding sirens or playing pre-recorded audio messages, locking or unlocking doors, and turning lights on or off.
