Focus on research and development (R&D)
At Axis, we believe in solutions that innovate for a smarter, safer and more secure world.
Since we started out in 1984, innovation has been central to everything we do. We’ve spent the last 20 years working in network video and have developed a high level of dual expertise in both this area and in IT – something which we consider to be one of our key strengths.
We’ve invested heavily in research and development and, in 2016 alone, it accounted for 17% of our total turnover. At our headquarters in Lund, Sweden, we currently have around 1000 engineers developing new technology based on open source platforms.
“ I am proud that we are continuing to quickly meet new market needs and to identify new trends while maintaining quality and assuming responsibility at all stages. ”Ray Mauritsson, President
Award-winning technology, first to market
Our dedicated focus on R&D means we have a long list of firsts, including the world’s first network camera, HDTV network camera and thermal network camera. We also pioneered network-based physical access control.
Our technology’s also picked up lots of awards along the way. We’ve won a Red Dot Design Award for our innovatively shaped AXIS P5415-E PTZ Dome Network Camera; the Wall Street Journal Technology Innovation Award for our Lightfinder technology; and the Detektor International Best Access Control Product Award 2014 for our A1001 Network Door Controller. Our channel partner program also received a 5-star rating by CRN Magazine.
An eye on the future
As the drive for a smarter, safer world intensifies, we’re busy developing increasingly-sophisticated products. We’re continuously making advances in light sensitivity, dynamics, color reproduction and resolution in our network cameras. We’re also building on our thermal network camera technology and 180/360-degree panoramic network cameras.
Moving forward, physical access control is another key focus for Axis. We’re introducing a new level of freedom and flexibility in the market, something which stems from the same open IP philosophy we pioneered in video surveillance.
As new markets and possibilities open up, we’re at the forefront of them.
