Ecodesign: choosing future-proof materials

We take a proactive approach to material choices—often going beyond existing legislation and sometimes addressing substances that regulations have yet to cover. We phase out hazardous materials like PVC and halogenated flame retardants well before requirements take effect. We are fully aligning with EU directives like RoHS and REACH. In 2024, 98% of all new products were free from PVC. In addition, we increase the use of recycled and biobased plastics, without ever compromising on product quality or lifespan.

Built to last - a circular approach

Embracing circularity in product design, we focus on extending product lifespan. Minimizing environmental impact is essential, while still delivering high-quality, long-lasting, and resilient products. We incorporate recycled and renewable materials, helping drive demand for material recycling and reducing waste.

Our products are designed for easy repair and manufactured to high standards that ensure a long service life with minimal waste. Regular software updates further extend product usability and strengthen cybersecurity. Axis devices that run on AXIS OS, our Linux-based operating system, receive software support for an average of 8 to 12 years.

Energy efficiency through innovation

Smarter tech, lower energy use

Innovative technology plays a key role in supporting energy efficiency. This ongoing effort is essential, as advanced features like AI and analytics are expected to increase energy demands as technology continues to evolve.

While the energy use of a single product—such as one camera—may seem minor, every watt counts. Features like the low power mode, available in selected Axis cameras, can reduce energy consumption by managing the cameras’ internal heaters. In low power mode, the heater activates later or at a lower temperature than usual.

Additionally, Axis power meter enables precise measurement of current and historic energy use of a camera, helping users optimize efficiency and meet requirements.

Innovating for energy efficency

Network cameras are just one part of a larger system, it’s essential to look at energy use on a system-wide level. This is where smart technologies make a real difference. Axis’ Zipstream reduces bandwidth and storage needs by 50% or more, significantly lowering energy use. Technologies like Lightfinder eliminate the need for external lighting—further cutting power consumption while maintaining high performance.
