Panoramic cameras allow you to monitor a wide view area with fewer cameras, as compared to conventional cameras. Panoramic cameras are very versatile and - depending on the model - can deliver 360° overviews, 180° panoramic views, quad views (simulating four different cameras) and digital PTZ views (as in conventional cameras).
The panoramic camera of the past usually involved a single-sensor fixed camera with a wide-angle lens. The panoramic camera market of today is much broader, with a greater variety of cameras and a couple of interesting combinations too.
This article aims to highlight application areas and to present the different types of panoramic cameras, such as single-sensor, multisensor and multidirectional.
