Video Management Systems (VMS) – video recording, playback and live view solutions used for video surveillance. Examples of VMS solutions:

• Network Video Recorder (NVR) – a combination of hardware and software for easy installation.

• Hybrid NVR – supports both analog and network cameras enabling use of analog cameras in a network solution.

• Software – a software solution installed, for example on a server on a local network, a cloud service, a network camera, etc.

Management and Maintenance – solutions where you can manage and maintain devices connected to the network, sometimes including management of the network itself.

Client/Server based solution – a solution where the software is installed on a server and you can use a client (for example a web browser), to control settings and recordings, to watch live and recorded video, etc. The main benefits are that you are in total control of the full system and that installation is very easy (for example an NVR).

Hosted/Cloud solution – a solution where video is recorded remotely on the Internet. A hosting provider hosts the servers where the video is recorded and a client is used to connect to your video recordings. Main benefits are that installation is very easy, no costs and maintenance of servers, remotely recorded video prevents theft of the recording device on site, etc.

Edge solution (ACAP application) – a solution where the application is running onboard the Axis device. It can either be an application running partly on the edge and partly on a server, or an application running fully embedded on the Axis device. Main benefits are less bandwidth usage, easy to scale, lower requirements for server performance or no additional server needed, lower costs, etc.

Smartphone/tablet solution (Apple iOS, Android, Microsoft) – a solution where you can use your smartphone or smart touch tablet as a client, i.e. for live view video from your cameras, to access and control your recoded video, etc. Main benefits are easy access and control.
