The world leaders in network video meet the sports world with the sponsorship of the famous circuit named after Marco Simoncelli

Axis Communications, the global leader in network video surveillance technology, and Milestone Systems, the leading provider of an open platform IP video management software (VMS), make their debut in motorsports by sponsoring with their cameras and software a part of the video surveillance system of the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, temple of speed and an absolute must of the most famous motorsports championships in the world.

The common goal of Axis, Milestone Systems, and Misano World Circuit is to strengthen and further implement the video surveillance system of the track, providing high-technology solutions in support of the safety of the riders and for a better management of the race by all operators on track, the commissioners themselves, and the judges involved in the important races that are held in the motor circuit.

Confirming the strategic choices of technology insourcing already used in the past, this new design as well has been coordinated by the Information Systems Management of Colacem S.p.A., owner of Santa Monica S.p.A.

The new AXIS Q1615 MK-II have been installed in the circuit, the first IP cameras in the world to be equipped with i-CS lenses, able to exchange information directly with the camera itself via an open protocol. Thanks to the use of different engines within the i-CS lens, the zoom, focus, and aperture can be remotely controlled to offer even higher video performance.

All these features result in very high quality videos in HDTV 1080p at 50/60 fps, or HDTV 720p at 100/120 fps, a characteristic that allows us to capture extremely accurate video details even when you record bikes darting at 300 km/h.

Milestone XProtect® VMS, easy to use, reliable, and proven in thousands of installations, is able to better manage the flow of high-performance Axis cameras, ensuring flexibility in the choice of network hardware and the integration with other systems.

All the recordings of the Race Control after the event will be stored in the Cloud Object Storage of Aruba (, service that allows the backup of large amounts of data in a simple and extremely reliable way, considering a large space in the tens of Terabytes. In this way, the video materials will be available to all the companies involved in the project, FIM, Dorna, and Judicial Authorities, in the case there is need of investigations and review of the the recordings.

The weekend of the Tim MotoGP Grand Prix of San Marino and Riviera di Rimini 2016 will be the first occasion in which the new cameras will be used in the field by industry professionals who will be able to appreciate the quality and technological innovation of Axis Communications.
