Environmental responsibility

Reducing impacts is at the heart of our approach to the environment. We do this in a variety of ways.  First, by developing smart, more environmentally friendly and energy-efficient products and solutions. This includes careful selection of the raw materials to make our products. Second, by examining impacts along the value chain and seeing where we can cut down on packaging materials, optimize logistics flows, use lower impact forms of transport, pay climate compensation, or partner with local suppliers.

We’ve been especially successful in reducing the footprint of our packaging, which is now made with mainly recycled materials. In some cases, we have cut packaging down by almost half.

Focus on the products’ life cycle

When it comes to sustainability, we believe success depends on having the right mindset all the way from product design to disposal, and beyond. That’s why Axis has had a Green Product Design group since 2011. It’s also why we conduct product life cycle analyses (LCAs) of existing and new products, mapping their impacts throughout the value chain.

Our LCAs are used to help product developers and designers make more sustainable decisions about future products. They have already led to the phasing out of polyvinyl chloride plastics (PVC) in Axis products, and more widespread use of recyclable materials. 95 per cent of the materials used in our products are now either recyclable or can be incinerated according to Swedish recycling standards.

LCAs have also revealed that end-user energy consumption o accounts for 60 to 80 per cent of our products’ total impacts. This means that even a marginal improvement in energy efficiency can make a significant difference, and has encouraged us to focus more sharply on designing energy-efficient products.
