Axis swaps security for shovels at green initiative on Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way

Cloudforests invites partner businesses to attend inaugural Community Planting Day and demonstrate their passion for helping the planet through sustainable action on the ground.

A group of businesses recently came together as ‘CoolPartners’ to plant hundreds of trees as part of a sustainable initiative, led by Axis’ partner Cloudforests. Three members of Axis’ team rolled up their sleeves and grabbed their shovels as they planted a number of trees in one of four specially designated Cloudforest sites along Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way. The hard graft took place at Cloudforests’ inaugural Community Planting Day, an initiative aiming to save the planet and help create a more sustainable future.

Axis’ Shirley Phillips-Knight, Peter Dempsey and Claudia Copeland, joined representatives from the other 27 CoolPartners to plant hundreds of trees in Cloudforest Three. CoolPartners is the name given by Cloudforests to the businesses that have signed up to support this initiative so far, to demonstrate their green credentials and give something back to the planet through positive action.

Claudia Copeland, UK & Ireland Channel & Distribution Marketing Specialist at Axis, said of the event: “Despite the wind and rain, we had a fantastic day on Ireland’s beautiful coastline. The Axis team put in the hard yards to plant trees in our own miniature forest, and plenty more were planted by the other CoolPartners who attended.”

After a sustained period of not being able to physically meet industry peers, the Axis team relished the opportunity to join forces with other like-minded businesses to help create a greener future. Partnership has an important role to play in unlocking more sustainable, viable ways of living and doing business, and the Axis team took pride in being able to make a positive difference.

Bernard Pender, Cloudforests CEO, added: “The Cloudforests project has a simple and clear mission: to help save the planet by creating one hundred Cloudforests along Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way. This can only be achieved with the support of our amazing CoolPartners, such as Axis Communications, who is helping to cool the planet through real climate action projects.”

Cloudforests operates as a social enterprise focused on climate change and environmental protection. The Cloudforests team source land for the planting of trees and look at ways to enhance the biodiversity of the site, purely for the benefit of the planet. Each company-sponsored area carries a logo, and live video feeds can be accessed at any time. From the moment the first tree was planted back in October 2020, Cloudforests has been capturing timelapse video of the sites using Axis 4K cameras, chosen because of their ability to provide high-definition images while withstanding harsh conditions in rugged environments.

Sustainability is at the core of the Cloudforests project. From an environmental perspective, just one Cloudforest site covers 12 hectares and can absorb 120 tonnes of carbon per annum. The real lesson to come from the inaugural Community Planting Day is that true climate action can only be achieved by working together towards a common goal. The CoolPartners scheme has brought businesses, partners and end-customers together and has seen them all offer their commitment to the creation of a sustainable future.
