Axis’ new instant PTZ network camera geared for tough situations

Axis Communications, the global leader in network video*, today launched the vandal-resistant, instant one-click pan/tilt/zoom AXIS 212 PTZ-V Network Camera. The camera is based on the award-winning AXIS 212 PTZ that introduced pan/tilt/zoom functionality and automatic patrolling, without wear and tear on moving parts a year ago.

The AXIS 212 PTZ-V features a metal base and a durable, transparent cover to provide excellent protection against vandalism. This makes the camera ideal for indoor video surveillance in demanding environments like schools, shops, banks and receptions where a whole area overview is essential. The instantaneous pan/tilt/zoom feature enables quick and precise monitoring of suspicious activity.

Combining a 3 megapixel sensor with a wide-angle lens, the AXIS 212 PTZ-V provides VGA resolution which ensures the same high quality image for both overview and close up surveillance. With no moving parts, the camera alternates instantly between full overview and instant pan/tilt/zoom, without wear and tear or noise. Equipped with Power over Ethernet capability, the network camera uses one Ethernet cable for both power and video, making installation quick and cost effective.

The camera supports IPv6 in addition to the standard IP protocol version 4 as insurance against the growing shortage of IPv4 addresses. It also offers a comprehensive set of network security and management capabilities such as multiple user access levels, HTTPS encryption, IEEE 802.1X and IP address filtering that ensure secure video handling and configuration.

Anders Laurin, executive vice president of Axis Communications commented:
“Combining a vandal-resistant casing and a unique set of features, the AXIS 212 PTZ-V more than fulfils the market’s need for a reliable cost-efficient and tamper-resistant video surveillance solution. AXIS 212 PTZ-V provides an overview of the whole monitored area whereas conventional PTZ cameras only allow the user to pan, tilt and zoom in a limited area.”

Steve Gorski, managing director, Axis Communications (UK) Ltd commented:
“The AXIS 212PTZ is a very popular network camera and the addition of vandal resistant casing will widen its appeal even further. The introduction of the AXIS 212 PTZ-V is part of a growing number of Axis cameras with vandal resistant casing as Axis extends the options available to its customers. ”

AXIS 212 PTZ-V is supported by the industry’s largest range of application software through the Axis Application Development Partner programme and the AXIS Camera Station video management software. It will be available through Axis’ distribution channels in March. The UK recommended retail price for the AXIS 212 PTZ-V is £450 (exc. VAT).
