Axis launches professional wireless network camera fulfilling highest market demands

Axis Communications, the global leader in the network video market1, launched today a wireless network camera for a demanding market that requires optimal flexibility and ease of installation as well as secure communication. With its progressive scan sensor and advanced image processing, AXIS 211W provides the superior image quality that customers have come to expect from Axis products.

The AXIS 211W Network Camera offers both a wireless IEEE 802.11g/b connection to the network and a wired Ethernet connection supporting Power over Ethernet, facilitating installation and relocation, for example, monitoring product campaigns in a retail store. Only one outlet is needed; either power or network. The omni-directional indoor antenna included with the product is exchangeable for further flexibility. The bundle option with outdoor antenna and housing is the perfect choice such as for mounting the camera onto a light pole in a car park – where there is power but no network connection is available.

Offering the market’s most comprehensive set of network capabilities, the AXIS 211W Network Camera delivers for optimised security, efficiency and manageability. Examples are the IPv6 support, which insures against the growing shortage of IPv4 addresses, and Quality of Service (QoS), which enables the reservation of network capacity and the prioritisation of mission-critical surveillance data in a QoS-aware network. Network security features include support for Enterprise or Personal Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA/WPA2) for wireless communication, and HTTPS encryption as well as IEEE 802.1X network access control for both wireless and wired connection to the network.

The two-way audio functionality allows users to listen in on an area and communicate with visitors or intruders, and provides a detection alarm at a configurable audio level. AXIS 211W supports the industry standard Axis Application Programming Interface, AXIS VAPIX™ API, which facilitates the development of customized software solutions. The API ensures compatibility with the market’s widest range of third-party video management software, available from Axis Application Development Partners, as well as the AXIS Camera Station video management software.
