Axis
Communications has announced today the introduction of the AXIS 215 PTZ Network
Camera, a Pan/Tilt/Zoom camera that provides full 360 degree panning by the use
of the new and unique auto-flip feature. The highly compact AXIS 215 PTZ is
perfect for the indoor surveillance of shops, reception areas, schools, offices
and other places that require both overview and zoom functionality.
The AXIS 215 PTZ also features automatic day and night functionality, 12x
optical zoom, 4x digital zoom and auto-focusing. Simultaneous MPEG-4 and Motion
JPEG video streams at resolutions up to 4CIF allow for optimized quality and
bandwidth usage. Pre and post-alarm image buffering, video motion detection, as
well as scheduled and triggered event functionality with alarm notification all
combine to create an effective solution for indoor monitoring. Two-way audio
support enables remote users not only to view, but also listen in on an area and
communicate orders or requests to visitors or intruders, thereby increasing the
monitoring options. AXIS 215 PTZ also supports audio alarms, making it possible
to detect the noise from intruders even in the dark.
All PTZ cameras have a mechanical stop that prevents the camera from panning the
full 360° degrees and thereby breaking the cables between the camera and the
main board. This means that following -e.g. a person walking behind the camera -
would not be possible; you will only see them when they appear in the camera’s
angle of view. For the AXIS 215 PTZ, the unique auto-flip feature reverses the
pan direction whenever the camera reaches the mechanical stop at 180° and does
so in around one second. Auto-flip means the AXIS 215 PTZ has no blind spots and
is suitable for mounting in the centre of the ceiling. The comprehensive set of
network security features in the AXIS 215 PTZ includes multi-level password
protection, IP address filtering and HTTPS encryption.
Anders Laurin, Executive Vice President, Corporate Strategy, of Axis
Communications AB commented:
“We are now seeing a great increase in the demand for small maneuverable
cameras, which is due to the fact that network video makes it possible to
remotely pan, tilt and zoom without using any extra cables. Examples of target
applications are all types of indoor surveillance where the user can benefit
from changing the field of view, for example to follow a potential shoplifter,
or to redirect the camera to preset positions whenever there is an alarm.”
Steve Gorski, managing director, Axis Communications UK commented:
“With Axis, the physical size of a network camera does not equate with a
reduction in functionality. The AXIS 215 PTZ offers full pan/tilt/zoom with
unique auto-flip giving it exceptional flexibility in terms of its usage and
siting.”
The AXIS 215 PTZ is supplied complete with all indoor mounting accessories. (A
separate housing is available for outdoor use.) The product is supported by the
industry’s largest base of application software through the Axis Application
Development Partner program, as well as the AXIS Camera Station video management
software. The recommended retail price for the AXIS 215 PTZ is £643 (excluding
VAT).
