Axis Communications the global leader in network video1 has introduced the ultra-compact AXIS 247S Video Server that is designed for discreet or space-restrictive video surveillance applications, such as in shops, banks and government buildings. The AXIS 247S Video Server converts one stream of analogue video into high quality, full frame rate Motion JPEG or MPEG-4 video. The fact that the AXIS 247S Video Server is powered via Power over Ethernet (PoE) and also supplies power up into analogue cameras through PoE makes this product unique in the market today.

converts one stream of analogue video into high quality, full frame rate video.
The video encoder can deliver Motion JPEG and advanced MPEG-4 streams
simultaneously, providing the ability to optimize for both image quality and
bandwidth. It also provides video motion detection, one-way audio for listening
in on an area, and audio detection alarm.
Given the encoder’s small size and support for PoE, relocating and setting up
surveillance is quick and easy. Positioning the AXIS 247S close to an analogue
camera also eliminates the loss in image quality that would occur if video were
to be transferred over long distances through a coaxial cable instead of an IP
network.
Axis video encoders offer the market’s most comprehensive set of network
capabilities, optimising the network video solution for security, efficiency and
manageability. An example is the IPv6 support, which insures against the growing
shortage of IPv4 addresses and eliminates problems with static IP address
allocation.

the AXIS Camera Station video management software. The product is available now
through Axis’ usual UK & Ireland distribution channels. The recommended retail
price for the AXIS 247S is £304 (excluding VAT).
