Axis offers view into the future of IP-Surveillance at IFSEC 2006

Axis Communications, the global leader in the network video market1, will give all visitors to IFSEC 2006 (Hall 20, stand N105) the chance to find out about the latest developments in IP-Surveillance including the launch of Axis’ first product optimised for Intelligent Video application integration.

Axis is launching a total of five new products at IFSEC which are together designed to make the installation and use of Axis products easier. IFSEC takes place at National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham from 8th–11th May 2006.

The AXIS 242S IV Video Server is a single channel video server equipped with a DSP (Digital Signal Processor) chip, enabling built-in handling of intelligent video analysis together with collection and transmission of high quality images.

The AXIS 242S IV uses Axis’ open Application Programming Interfaces called AXIS VAPIX, allowing a range of applications from Axis’ Application Development Partners to be easily downloaded. Therefore, it is easy to tailor the AXIS 242S IV to meet specific business requirements.

One such application is the AXIS IVM120 People Counter – downloaded onto the AXIS 242S IV, the software executes people counting analysis. It is ideal for applications such as entrance and exit management but also for measuring the effectiveness of in-store promotions based on an analysis of people traffic around point-of-sale displays for example.

Also making its debut at IFSEC is the AXIS 216FD Fixed Dome Network Camera. Simple to install, its discreet, compact design provides effective protection against tampering and is easy to power-up using Power over Ethernet. The camera lens adjusts to any angle and even in low light the AXIS 216FD delivers crisp images at up to 30 frames per second. Two-way audio support is possible as the AXIS 216FD has a built-in microphone to listen in and communicate orders or requests back to visitors or intruders. Supported by the industry’s largest base of video management software, the AXIS 216FD is ideal for securing retail, banking, schools and offices over a LAN or across the Internet.

Using a joystick gives responsive and accurate control of network cameras and domes – the new AXIS 295 Video Surveillance Joystick is a USB device that allows you to quickly pan, tilt or zoom. With twelve pre-programmable buttons, this three-axis joystick integrates seamlessly with any video surveillance software platform that recognises joystick inputs via Microsoft DirectX.

For installers, the new AXIS Installation Monitor simplifies physical installation - a handheld Pocket PC automatically discovers wired or wireless AXIS network cameras, to view images and adjust focus, view angle and direction without the need of a laptop or contact with a colleague at another computer.

Steve Gorski, managing director, Axis Communications (UK) Ltd, commented:
“Axis keeps pushing the boundaries of network video further, and the products we are launching at IFSEC demonstrate this. We invite anyone who really wants to fully experience the capabilities of network video solutions to visit us at our stand, so we can prove why Axis innovation keeps us ahead. New products such as AXIS IVM120 People Counter also show how we are reaching further into new exciting areas and providing added value solutions for new audiences.”
