Axis introduces fixed dome network camera for professional video surveillance

Axis Communications, the global leader in IP-surveillance, announced today the launch of the AXIS 225FD fixed dome network camera. This latest addition is a high performance camera offering progressive scan, Power over Ethernet (PoE) and a built-in heater to prevent condensation. The network camera has a vandal-resistant, outdoor-proof design that makes it ideal for prisons, campuses, parking garages, railway stations, and other environments where impact resistance and weatherproofing is required.

The AXIS 225FD utilises simultaneous Motion JPEG and MPEG-4 video compression to optimise both video quality and bandwidth consumption. It also has PoE functionality that is compatible with the IEEE 802.3af standard reducing installation costs and consolidating the power source to a central location. The day and night camera uses an automatically removable infrared filter that enables high-quality images under all lighting conditions, including colour video in high- and low-light conditions and black-and-white video in dark conditions.

Dominic Bruning, managing director of Axis Communications UK Ltd said:
“The AXIS 225FD is Axis’ first fixed-dome network camera model, complementing the extensive existing product portfolio of professional-level network cameras. Due to the increasing requirement for network cameras in harsh environments, Axis has launched this smart, all-in-one product to enhance the convenience for our partners and installers.”

The AXIS 225FD uses a progressive scan CCD image sensor that enables moving images to be presented without distortion or blur up to 30 frames per second in VGA resolution. It also offers the highest security measures through the use of multi-level password protection, IP address filtering and HTTPS encryption. Available accessories include ceiling-mount brackets for installation on indoor ceilings and smoked glass for increased discretion.

The recent, comprehensive global report on the prospects of the market for CCTV and IP-Surveillance by UK analyst house IMS Research stated that fixed dome cameras are set to triple their sales across EMEA from 268,461 (2004) to 617,407 units in 2009.

The AXIS 225FD is supported by the industry’s largest base of application software through the Axis ADP programme. The network camera will be available through Axis’ distribution channels in Q4 2005, for the manufacturers suggested retail price of £699 + vat.
