AXIS Media Control - FAQ

Bandwidth usage

Question:

I don’t have a particularly fast Internet connection and would like to know how much bandwidth my AXIS 211A camera uses for video and audio.

Answer:

For Motion JPEG video, please use the bandwidth calculator for a specific product:
AXIS Design Tool

For MPEG-4 video you can check bandwidth using the built-in tool as specified in:
Checking the current bandwidth and frame rate for one client

Consider limiting bandwidth video streaming use to a constant bit rate as per:
Bit rate control for MPEG-4 streams

Audio uses at least 70kbps in each direction, so Simplex or Half duplex modes are recommended for slower connections.

The AXIS 207 uses, depending on its configuration, 8 to 32 kbps for audio transmission.

The AXIS 207W/207MW/212 PTZ/216FD use, depending on the configuration, 8 to 64kbps for audio transmission.

Always ensure that you are using the latest firmware for your product.

This FAQ applies to AXIS 207/207W/207MW/210A/211A/212 PTZ/213 PTZ/214 PTZ/216FD/241SA/241QA.
