AXIS Media Control - FAQ

Additional client MPEG-4 decoder licenses

Question:

I see that the AXIS 210/211 Network Camera comes with 1 encoder and one MPEG-4 decoder licenses. What should I do if users from more than one workstation acess Live View and MPEG-4 stream on this product, either by unicast or multicast?

Answer:

MPEG-4 is licensed technology. An Axis product that supports MPEG-4 streaming includes one viewing client license (decoder) and one encoder license.

When more than one workstation needs to install MPEG-4 decoder coming with AXIS Media Control Embedded client, you will need to purchase additional MPEG-4 license packs. Part numbers are:
MPEG-4 Visual decoder 50-user license (0160-030*)
MPEG-4 Visual decoder & AAC decoder 50-user license (0160-040*)
AAC decoder license is necessary to have only for those products that support AAC audio.

In Axis products, an administrator can also disable the installation of the MPEG-4 portion (i.e. the decoder) of the viewing client (AMC) and thus limit the number of workstations or control workstations the decoder is installed on. It is important to remember that licenses are per workstation, i.e. as soon as the MPEG-4 part of AMC is installed on a computer, one instance of the license is considered to be in use, regardless of whether or not the user accesses the MPEG 4 stream.

*For the Japanese market, part numbers are 0160-035 respectively 0160-045.
