Upgrading using the Flash Upgrade Port
Notes:
This method applies to the AXIS 570/670 MIO only.
Make sure to take all recommended precautions related to static-sensitive devices.
Flash Loading of AXIS 570/670 MIO
This document describes how to update the AXIS 570/670 MIO Print Servers using the AXIS flash load kit part no. 15147.
Equipment needed:
- Compatible PC 286 - Pentium, 640 Kbytes memory, DOS ver. 3.3 or newer
- Flash loading kit part no. 15147
- AXIS 570/670 MIO product
- Files with software to be loaded
Flash loading kit Contents:
- Flash loading cable part no 14467
- Power supply board part no. 15148
- Power supply AXIS PS-A model
- Flash load diskette part no. 13886 (containing npsload.exe file)
Step by Step Description:
- If the AXIS 570/670 MIO card is installed in a printer, turn the printer off and remove the card. See the User's Manual.
- Connect the flash loading cable to a parallel port on a PC and the Flash loading connector on the AXIS 570/670 MIO board. Note: Pin 1 (red mark on the flash cable) should be towards the MIO (printer) connector, see figure 1. below.
- Connect the AXIS 570/670 MIO board to the Power supply board.
- Attach power by connecting the AXIS PS-A model power supply to the Power supply board.
- Press the RESET SWITCH on the Power supply board.
- Start the loading sequence by the npsload.exe file on the Flash load diskette "npsload -x binary file" (x = lpt port). Note: For help run
"npsload -h".
- After successful flash loading install the AXIS 570/670 MIO card in the printer again according to the instructions in the User's Manual.

How to monitor the loading procedure
- When the loading is started, the network LED will start flashing with a rate of 2 Hz (loading time between 30 sec and 4 min).
- The loader will consider itself completed when the LED starts flashing with a rate of 0.5 Hz.
- In case of error, the flashing rate will be 1 Hz (with the on period much longer than the off period).
There will also be a message on the PC screen telling You if the loading was successful or not. |
