What will the StorPoint server do to my tree?

These are the steps the StorPoint goes through to  install itself into the NDS tree:

Finding the tree The StorPoint will find the tree using SAP or SLP. The StorPoint will choose the NDS server closest to itself and connect to it.

Find admin user and log in.

The next step is to log in as the user specified in the NDSAdminName parameter. This login process is the exact same thing as logging in from a client workstation. 

Possibly do schema extension.

If you have chosen to store rights in the tree (option available in 4.20), the StorPoint will connect to the server holding the master replica of [Root] and read the current schema defined for the 'NCP Server' object. If the schema has not been extended with the attribute AXIS:SPcd:rights, the StorPoint will continue and add this attribute. This process requires that the NDSAdminName contains a user that has Supervisor rights to the  [Root] object of the tree. In the 4.20 release we introduced the option of storing rights in a file located on a file server. When using this option, the schema extension is not required.

Find server context

Next step is to find the container where the StorPoint server object  should be created. The StorPoint will verify that the admin user has  sufficient rights to create objects in this container. Check if server object already exists The StorPoint will then check if there already exists an object with the  same name as the one we want to create. If the object already exists, the installation process will be aborted (Unless ‘forced’ installation was chosen, in which case the existing object will be deleted) 

Create new server object and volume object

The StorPoint then creates an object of class 'NCP Server' and a volume object pointing to the SYS volume on the StorPoint. 

Create encryption keys and write them to server object

This operation is the same as used when changing a password for a user. It writes the new public key and secret key to the server object in the tree.
