Installation & Configuration

Q: How do I install my Video Server?
A: Just follow the instructions in the manual. If you have misplaced it a new copy can be retrieved here.

Q: How do I connect my P/T/Z?
A: Just follow the instructions in the manual. If you have misplaced it a new copy can be retrieved from here.

Q: What is the difference between RS422 and RS485?
A: RS422 can handle only one slave unit (e.g. a PTZ). Whereas RS485 can handle several slave units. Electrically the two protocols are identical.

Q: Can I connect onto my existing Ethernet?
A: Yes, all you have to do is to obtain an IP address from your network administrator and follow the instructions in the installation guide.

Q: How do I install and configure my Video Server?
A: Installing the Axis 2400 to your PC. Make certain to have all cables plugged in. Power on all units. The network LED shall go on after power up sequence. Assign an IP number. If you are familiar with DHCP you may use that.
If not, try to use the arp command from DOS. Find an available IP address (e.g. 192.168.1.55). First do "ping <IP number>" and it shall respond "request timed out", which indicates you have a valid IP number that is not used. Then assign the IP address to the Axis 2400 by "arp –s <IP number> 00-40-8c-xx-yy-zz", where xx-yy-zz is the serial number of your Axis 2400. Then finally do "ping <IP number>" and your Axis 2400 shall reply "reply from …." Start your web-browser (Netscape 3.0 or higher recommended) to the IP address of your Axis 2400. Now you will see the welcome screen and you should be all set! For certain features you may need a user id and password. The default user is root, and the default password is pass.

Q: Do I need to use an external power supply ?
A: Yes, a power supply is supplied in the box.

Q: How can I make sure I do not use up too much bandwidth?
A: There is a "bandwidth limiter" in the Video Server setup utility.

Security

Q: How can I keep unauthorized viewers from accessing the
Video Server?

A: The AXIS 2400 is a Web server of its own. This means that the server is secured like any other Internet host. It is up to the network manager to restrict access so that either individuals, groups, the whole company or the whole world may access your AXIS Web Cameras camera server. Normally this is done in your company's firewall.

Q: How do I select who should be able to access the Video
Server?

A: The administration of access and passwords is something that has to be related to the individuals use of the system.

Q: Can I protect the settings by a password?
A: The Axis 2400 comes with a standard feature that has name and password check before entry to the setup pages is allowed. The name and password can be changed by the user and is stored in the unit.

Q: Can I get password -protected access to my Video Server.
A: Yes, the same way as any web based server can be protected by password.
