Mission
The Choctaw Nation is one of several Native American Indian tribes operating casinos as part of a $25 billion Indian gaming industry. Surveillance at the casino was becoming more challenging due to increasing traffic flow, money handling and the threat of theft. Varying lighting conditions also made it difficult for legacy systems to provide positive identification. For these reasons, the Choctaw security team decided to install a modern, IP-based system. To do so, they would have to consider bandwidth and storage usage so as to avoid putting a strain on other mission critical applications running on the network.
Solution
The Choctaw security team chose to install fixed and dome network cameras from Axis, very well suited to deliver superior image quality even in challenging casino lighting conditions. The entire system called for over 300 cameras, so efficient bandwidth management became a top priority. To solve this, new switches and a dedicated server were deployed, and flexible camera settings, such as frame rate adjustment, motion detection, MPEG-4 compression and Quality of Service were used for each particular situation.
Result
By choosing intelligent cameras that are easily adjusted to improve bandwidth and storage usage, the Choctaw team gained a tool that provided excellent handling of network resources. Moreover, they were able to provide far better security for casino customers and employees thanks to vastly improved image quality.
