Traffic monitoring: How it can be done

Network cameras and video servers are ideally suited for traffic monitoring:

  • The public can see whether roads are congested
  • The city can receive information about the traffic flow
  • The police can obtain real-time information when needed

Axis network cameras can be connected via LAN modems. Axis video server can be utilized - each unit connecting up to four analog cameras. With Pan/Tilt/Zoom cameras, the police would have the possibility to zoom in on details.

A host computer will be needed for hosting the live images and the actual web site. This hosting service can be provided by an ISP (Internet Service Provider). The cameras can either send images to the host computer automatically, or the host computer can actively retrieve the images from the cameras.
