Retail: How it can be done

Axis networked video solutions allow shop owners to follow the business from the comfort of their homes or offices.

Procedure:

  1. Obtain e.g. a DSL account from a local ISP (Internet Service Provider).

  2. Install all equipment.

  3. Assign IP addresses etc to the network cameras/video servers/network DVRs.

  4. Watch real-time video using a standard Web browser, from anywhere.

  5. For continuous recording, program your networked video product to store images on a file server using FTP, or use a network DVR to store the images locally. Images can also be sent via e-mail upon a triggered alarm.

In this example, Shop 1 is already equipped with four CCD cameras and one TV monitor. As the CCD cameras are still working, you want to keep them. Therefore a video server is connected in parallel with the TV monitor. A serial server can be integrated with the cash register.

The other shops are utilizing network cameras connected to Internet via standard modems. In Shop 3, a switch on the door is connected to the network camera facing the rear door. Images are sent when people are passing the door.  The more advanced AXIS 2120 Network Camera with built-in motion detection, used in Shop 2, would not need the switch.

The ISP will provide you with a DSL connection which means that you will have a modem with an Ethernet connector, connecting directly to a hub. The ISP will also provide you with information about IP addresses etc.
