How it works
Fail-over recording means that images can be temporarily stored in the network camera in case of network failure. The functionality provides increased system reliability and safeguards system operation.
Typical applications: Mission critical installations, or video surveillance where network coverage is limited/intermittent.
If a network failure occurs, the video stream from the camera will be stored on the camera’s SD/SDHC card. When the network connection is restored and the system returns to normal operation, the central VMS can retrieve and merge local video recordings seamlessly. This ensures that the user gets uninterrupted video recordings.

Tailored to accommodate smaller installations, ipConfigure reduces server-side storage requirements by taking advantage of edge storage on the camera. Alternatively, larger installations can use this feature as a failsafe in the event of network outages.
Genetec
Video trickling is an innovative feature from Genetec that brings even more flexibility and reliability to the recording management of Omnicast. In the event that the camera loses connection to the server, or if the server is offline, the Omnicast Archiver can later retrieve and permanently archive the recorded video from the camera to fill the gap. The benefits of this feature are already being realized by customers like the Footscray Police Department.
Milestone
Failover Recording Servers and Edge Storage with flexible retrieval ensure critical video data is always captured when using Milestone XProtect® Corporate video management software. In addition to retrieving the Edge Storage recordings from the camera when there is a failure, it is also possible to retrieve Edge Storage recordings on standard events or a defined schedule to meet specific installation needs or limitations.
