Kelvin temperature scale

Sunlight consists of different wavelengths, represented by colors. The visible light waves are represented by a temperature scale that ranges from 10,000 to 2,860 Kelvin. Fire holds 1800 K, indoor bulbs 2800 K. Photographers strive to find a light temperature around 5500 K, where the human eye is most sensitive.  This can be achieved in most surroundings by using correct additional lighting equipment.

About IR light

Outside of this visible range we find IR and UV light. The camera sensor will react to IR light. Since the human eye cannot detect these wavelengths, an IR filter is used in cameras. Thereby sensor detection and human vision correspond, offering correct color interpretation. On Axis' more advanced camera models, IR-cut filters are used for low light imaging purposes. With the filter deactivated, images are therefore represented in black/white mode.
