Modern digital copiers can do a whole lot more than just copy, print and scan. The backbone of the
digital copier is of course that it can make copies, but it can also staple, punch holes, fold papers, sort
papers, change paper type, size and color and make double-sided copies.
This functionality has, in the past, mostly been used when making copies from physical paper
originals at the copiers flatbed glass. However, since a digital copier can be networked with a
print server and thus serve as a printer, these finishing treatment options are made available in
printing environments containing Linux/Unix, AS/400, Citrix and Mainframe computers.
Because the machine is still a copier, users can apply these finishing options to printed
documents- without having to leave their desks.

The AXIS 5570e Network Print Server contains a copier driver that provides digital copiers
with finishing treatment functionality such as folding, stapling, sorting and printing
documents upon arrival in the in-tray. By connecting an AXIS 5570e to a digital copier, the
end-user receives post-printing finishing benefits while making use of existing digital copiers.
A new firmware release of the AXIS 5570e enables system integrators, copier manufacturers,
resellers and network administrators to define their own customized copier drivers. These
drivers are dynamically configured in the print server to contain sets of post-treatment copier
actions for any digital copier on the market.
AXIS 5570e can also network other types of printers, but the finishing options described here
are unique to digital copiers. Further, it also enables any Windows, Macintosh or Netware
user to print over the network while serving Unix/Linux, Citrix, Mainframe and AS/400 users.
Customer examples that will greatly benefit from using copier drivers:
• FINANCE: Salary lists, accounting reports, cost center summaries
• LOGISTICS: Transport documents, customs declarations, waybills
• PRODUCTION: Inventory lists, packaging documents, order packing lists
