Axis introduces world's smallest network camera for remote monitoring applications

Axis Communications, the global leader in the network video market, launched today the world's smallest, high performance network camera with a built-in Web server. The AXIS 205 Network Camera provides small businesses and professional home users with high image resolution (640 x 480 pixels) and full frame rate (30 frames per second) at an affordable price.

The AXIS 205 is ideal for streaming video for remotely monitoring properties or businesses or keeping an eye on a vacation home. Unlike Web cameras, the AXIS 205 operates independently of a PC and contains a built-in Web server that allows users to assign each network camera a unique IP address so that live images can be accessed from anywhere in the world via the Internet. Its small size (85 x 55 x 34 mm) and PC-independent design provide more flexible placement options as it can fit easily into almost any surrounding environment.

"The AXIS 205 opens the way for a new era in network cameras as a broader market can now take advantage of remote access to live, high quality video at an affordable price," said Ray Mauritsson, president of Axis. "Axis introduced the world's first network camera in 1996, and has since provided demanding industries such as the security market with network video products. This introduction is a natural next step in a fast-evolving market."

The AXIS 205 is optimized for indoor use and provides high quality, Motion JPEG video at 30 frames per second, even at the highest possible resolution. Users also have the option to record and store images to hard disk using the AXIS Camera Recorder software. In addition, the AXIS 205 offers dual-level password protection to prevent unauthorized users from accessing images or making changes to the camera system. The AXIS 205 also supports up to 20 users simultaneously.

The AXIS 205 will be available through Axis' distribution channels, starting October 1, 2003. The manufacturer's suggested retail price is 199 Euros (VAT excluded).
