Axis introduces market's most advanced network camera based on MPEG-2

Axis Communications today launched the market's most advanced network camera for demanding security and surveillance applications. Packed with a host of features, the AXIS 230 MPEG-2 Network Camera delivers 30/25 frames per second of DVD-quality video and synchronized audio over IP networks. In addition, the AXIS 230 is an infrared-sensitive camera that is able to provide color video during daytime, and black and white video during nighttime, making the camera ideal for installations that require round-the-clock, high quality video and audio.

As the most advanced solution for live, remote monitoring over an IP network, the AXIS 230 is perfect for demanding applications such as traffic monitoring and airport surveillance. Other target groups that can benefit from the combination of full frame rate and DVD-quality video and audio include casinos as well as organizations working with LAN-based education, such as hospitals. With the introduction of the AXIS 230, Axis continues to broaden its reach in the fast-growing, network video market.

The AXIS 230's list of features includes a powerful, 18x optical zoom lens (remotely controllable), built-in microphone for one-way audio from camera to viewer, and day/night functionality. Video and audio compression with MPEG-2 enables the AXIS 230 to combine the highest quality video and audio with relatively low bandwidth consumption. The AXIS 230 also provides support for multicasting over a local area network, allowing an unlimited number of simultaneous viewers. Other benefits include audio level alarm based on the level of sound picked up by the camera. For customers requiring pan/tilt control, the AXIS 230 provides support for third-party pan/tilt devices.
