Today Axis announced its co-operation with Swedish company gigaAnt, a Hexagon Wireless subsidiary. gigaAnt will supply antennas for Axis' wireless products based on Bluetooth(TM), such as the Bluetooth Access Point from Axis that will be introduced to the market before the end of this year.
The Bluetooth Access Point from Axis enables broadband access to the Internet and intranets for a wide range of mobile devices. This wireless solution supports both voice- and data applications, which makes wireless and fixed network resources more efficient and user-friendly.
"We are very happy to co-operate with gigaAnt, who were among the first on the market with antennas for Bluetooth and have a proven track-record. We feel very confident with gigaAnt as a supplier," says Torbjörn Wård, General Manager of Axis' Mobile Internet Division.
Axis will demonstrate its Bluetooth Access Point with a gigaAnt antenna during the Nordic Bluetooth Wireless Technology 2000, which takes place in Stockholm on October 4-5. Both Axis and gigaAnt will participate in the conference. gigaAnt will also show Axis wireless products at various trade shows this year in order to illustrate how the gigaAnt antennas can be used.
As a strong proponent of the open source movement, Axis is an innovator in embedded Linux development and provides under GPL the first release of a Bluetooth software stack for Linux. The stack can be found on the Axis web page for developers: www.developer.axis.com.
Both Axis and gigaAnt are Associate members of the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG). Axis has recently been appointed to three of the technical working groups within Bluetooth SIG: Extended Service Discovery, Printing Profile and Personal Area Network (PAN).
