Axis and AU-system cooperate on Bluetooth

Axis Communications has entered into cooperation with the Swedish AU-System with a view to take another step in the development of mobile Internet via Bluetooth. As part of this cooperation, AU-System will focus on services related to Axis 9010, Axis' access point for Bluetooth, which is scheduled for market launching in the near future.

Work includes several parts, such as solutions for roaming services between different Internet service providers. This will strengthen the Axis concept with public mobile Internet access provided via unlicensed radio technologies. Bluetooth is the first one out. AU-System and Axis will also jointly develop an API (Application Programming interface) for the Axis 9010 access point, which will enable the provision of new services through third-party developers.

The access point that includes Bluetooth is a key aspect of infrastructure solutions, featuring local mobile networks, of the type to be launched by Axis next year. Axis 9010 is one of the first products in its field to be certified for test use in the Japanese market. The access point, which will be launched before year-end, will complement today's mobile systems and GPRS and UMTS/3G, by offering local broadband access to Internet, wireless IP telephony and other services. Axis' system solution can be operated long before 3G and to a fraction of the cost.
